Brittanie Volk, PhD, RD

Executive Director & Secretary

Brittanie Volk is a research scientist, registered dietitian, and dedicated advocate for evidence-based nutrition. With two decades of experience in clinical research, translational science, and health innovation, she specializes in bridging rigorous scientific discovery with real-world application to improve metabolic health.

Her journey into metabolic health research began during her undergraduate studies in Dietetics at the University of Connecticut, where a transformative lecture by Dr. Jeff Volek introduced her to the power of nutritional ketosis. This pivotal moment sparked a lasting intellectual curiosity and a career-long collaboration with Dr. Volek and Dr. Steve Phinney, leading to groundbreaking work in low-carbohydrate and ketogenic nutrition. As the founding employee and former Director of Medical Affairs at Virta Health, Dr. Volk helped design and implement the first digital health program clinically proven to reverse type 2 diabetes through personalized nutrition and remote care, thriving in a true zero-to-one environment to build clinical, scientific, and operational foundations from the ground up.

As Executive Director of the Ketogenic Foundation, Dr. Volk leads the Foundation’s strategic vision, bringing a proven ability to build and scale initiatives in zero-to-one environments while advancing education, research, and collaborative efforts that translate the science of ketogenic nutrition into practical impact. She is particularly focused on engaging students to inspire the next generation by creating the same kind of transformative exposure to metabolic health science that first shaped her own path.

Throughout her career, Dr. Volk has remained committed to the belief that science and innovation can create meaningful change in both individual and population health. She is passionate about empowering others through knowledge, fostering community-driven and clinically sound solutions, and championing data-driven approaches to health and wellness. She bring this vision to life through the strategy and execution of education and collaborative initiatives that drive impact.

Dr. Volk holds a PhD and Master’s in Kinesiology and Exercise Science, along with a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from the University of Connecticut. Her work reflects a deep commitment to scientific integrity, community empowerment, and the transformative power of nutrition to change lives at scale.
